Here I am trying desperately to get caught up with the rest of you and still not getting around very well in all the social media that is out there. Yes I am one of the ancient ones that like e-mail and google.

I have been on a few of the sites listed on the libsuccess site and have found lots of interesting things being done. The book trailers put together by the patrons of the Arapahoe Library and the quick guide for using the videos to read to grandchildren which was also done by the librarian in the Arapahoe Library are a couple of things that could be used by any library to expand their patron base. The facebook page for the DeKalb County Public Library showing the connection to twitter with their photos of the pumpkin decorating contest the library held and the introduction to their new fiction guide showing the different books available and how to find them in their genre search site are great ways to keep the patrons coming back to check out the library sites.  I can see that flicker is mainly photos and tying the flicker page to the facebook page makes looking at the photos easier.  Wonderful things to bring children and adults to all types of books. I also noticed that the Hennepin County library used their facebook page to let their patrons know they are looking for people to be on their library board. That is a wonderful way to get the patrons that use the services of their library involved in their library. The Hennepin County Library also uses their facebook page to let people know of events happening in their community such as the Westminister Town Hall Forum with Eben Alexander, the author of "The Nature of Consciousness". I could see that this would be a great way to get people that were thinking of reading that particular book to sit and listen to the author tell his story, which may bring in that person as a new patron looking to read the book the author was telling them about.

All of these are wonderful things to keep the patrons of a library informed and interested in the library and I can see how this would help, but I always have one big question, how do people find out about these great sites? Is the idea of showing one patron who then connects the site on their facebook page which is connected to all of the 'friends' on their facebook page which then is connected to all the facebook friends on their facebook pages and on down the line, enough? How do we get the patrons that don't use the social media involved? Wondering Minds Want To Know----

That being a big question, I'm signing off .

Opps! I missed the second part of our homework. I looked at several of the blogs and realized I'm a bit wordy. I could have shortened my response and numbered them to be more orderly.  I'll try to do better in the future. Maybe this could be fun, as I did enjoy reading the blogs. What a great group we have at institute.  I can really tell most of the instituters are really trying to improve their libraries and help their patrons with any means possible.  Way to Go!

Okay! Here I am trying to set up a blog spot for myself---the none social animal that I am--- and I think I have it done.  The class I took several years ago must have stuck. It wasn't as hard as I thought it would be.  Now that I have this made, I'm suppose to tell you a little about myself. I think that could take a while. I wrote about myself once for the library and if I can find that I will post it at a later date. A summary: papergirl, gas station attendant, grocery store clerk, carhop, waitress, hairdresser cleanup girl, army recruiter's secretary, dry cleaner attendant, bartender, metz baking worker, construction gopher, bookkeeper, bar manager, insurance secretary, flower shop owner, lottery machine dumper, menu maker, map maker, and last---but not least--small claims clerk and digitization technician at the state library.  That kinda sums it up- a jack of all trades and a master of none...LOL
